2023 is over and the new year began with renewed energy. While Major League Soccer will not start until the end of February, Europe's top clubs are preparing for the most demanding stage of the season. They will not only face the second half of the leagues in their respective countries, but also the knock-out stages of international tournaments, such as the Champions League and Europa League.

However, it is also a propitious moment to analyze what has been done over the last twelve months. Undoubtedly, one of the clubs that have more reasons to celebrate are Manchester City, who in 2023 had the best year in their history. They won the Treble for the first time, that is, the three most important titles of the season (Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League). The latter also allowed them to compete in two other tournaments, the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup. And they were champions in both of them as well.

Another team that stood out during the last year were Real Madrid, who at the beginning of the current season are leaders of La Liga and won all their matches in group C of the Champions League. And in Italy, Napoli, champions of Serie A after 33 years. But the club that statistically had a better 2023 was none of them: it was PSV Eindhoven.

The specialized website BeSoccer prepared a ranking with the scores of all the teams in the main European leagues (England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Turkey, Belgium and Russia) and the first place went to the Dutch side, which averaged 2.6 points per game in all competitions this year. Galatasaray of Turkey have the same numbers, while in third place are Porto.

How did they fare?

PSV Eindhoven lost just 3 of the 54 matches they played during the previous year: 0-1 vs Emmen in Eredivisie, 0-3 vs Sevilla in Europa League and 0-4 vs Arsenal in Champions League. They were Dutch Cup champions and in the league they finished second in the 2022/23 season, while this year they are leaders with a 10-point lead over Feyenoord.
