In a throwback to the 90s, Mbappe has come out and said he wants PSG to adopt a policy of playing with two strikers up front instead of three. If you remember Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole at Manchester United, or Romario and Ronaldo for the Selecao, you will know there is nothing new about this suggestion.

The idea comes from the French national team, where Mbappe plays alongside Olivier Giroud. Both scored in France's 2-0 win over Austria in September, and Mbappe has made it clear that he wants that shape for PSG. He recently deleted a post from Instagram that suggested that he does not like to play by himself up front, but his feelings on his wide position at PSG are more of a mystery.

Messi has had an impressive season thus far on the right of the front three, scoring 12 goals and assisting 13 times in 17 games. It is the type of form that has the capital club ready to tie him down to an extension, but Barcelona and Inter Miami are also vying for his signature. It remains to be seen where the Argentine will be playing his football in 8 months.

Should he leave. Mbappe wants to partner Hugo Ekiteke up front in an attacking duo that could feature Neymar as triquartista. At 30, the Brazilian is still young enough to feature for the French club for a while to come. Although his form is lagging a little behind Messi's and Mbappe's, it would be premature to imagine a PSG side without him.

Mbappe starts to call the shots

With the club's commitment to building the team around Mbappe, there is every chance that the young striker could get his wish. As the jewel of the national team, and the next French hope for Ballon d'Or honours, PSG not only have an interest in retaining his services, but in ensuring that conditions are primed for him to excel.
