Paris Saint-Germain are still looking to sign another striker in the upcoming January transfer window, with out-of-favour Atlético Madrid man João Félix emerging as a possible recruit. Having missed out on Robert Lewandowski and Gianluca Scamacca over the summer, the league leaders are still intent on bringing in a player who can play as an all-out number nine so as to bring the best out of Kylian Mbappé.

The World Cup winner believed that PSG did not keep the promises that were made when he put pen to paper on a new deal back in May, notably with regard to his position on the pitch and as part of the overall project. His new contract, which Paris Saint-Germain fended off Real Madrid to secure, consists of a two-year extension along with an option for an additional one season, which can only be triggered by Mbappé’s decision alone. He has remained enigmatic about his future beyond his contract.

This tactical point has been at the centre of the Frenchman’s reported desire to leave the club just months into his new contract. The club’s sporting advisor Luís Campos wants to sign his compatriot on a loan deal. Félix signed for the Spaniards back in 2019 on a €126m deal, and has since scored 32 goals so far in 128 appearances for the Colchoneros. His arrival would also allow the reigning Champions to offer some reprieve for the free-scoring Lionel Messi-Neymar-Mbappé trident.

Everyone is trying to please Mbappe

Hugo Ekitike can still settle in and Pablo Sarabia can find form up front. Félix himself is said to be enticed by the idea of a move to PSG. Mbappé has notably felt frustrated with Christophe Galtier’s attacking system, and has publicly explained that he prefers playing in a two-man system alongside a pivot, like he does with Olivier Giroud in the national team. Galtier has explained that the club had set out to buy a fourth striker this summer, to no avail.
