Kylian Mbappe gave Paris Saint-Germain a glimmer of hope that he could stay by insisting he has not decided his future.

Mbappe's contract ends in June and last year he caused a stir by refusing to sign a 12-month extension, meaning he could leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the campaign. The French star has been authorized to speak with other clubs since January and even sign a pre-contract.

Mbappe is widely considered to leave at the end of the season and Real Madrid are the favorites to sign him after he failed to do so on his last two opportunities. But after the victory on Wednesday against Toulouse for the Champions Trophy, Mbappe questioned the decision.

“I am very motivated for this season. It is very important, we have trophies to win. Beyond that, no, I have not decided,” Mbappe warned. PSG insists he will not leave freely. “With the agreement I reached with the president (of PSG) this summer, regardless of the decision he makes, we managed to maintain the serenity of the club for the challenges ahead,” added the player. "That is the most important".

Mbappe was in a similar position previously and made PSG wait until his contract expired to sign a new one in May 2022 when Madrid aggressively pursued him. He said he knows when he will announce his decision. "I have no idea. It was done until May 2022 because I didn't know about it until May,” Mbappe said. “If I knew what I wanted right now, why wait? But the most important thing is to win trophies. “We are determined and the team is focused on that.”

The first title of the year

With his goal in the 2-0 win over Toulouse, Mbappe took his total to 22 goals in 23 games this season and extended his scoring record with PSG to 234 since joining in the summer of 2017. But he failed to score or even leave an impression in PSG's defeat 4-1 against Newcastle and 2-1 against AC Milan in the Champions League and barely advanced to the round of 16 as second on the last day of the group stage. Still, Mbappe enjoys playing under new coach Luis Enrique. “He arrived with clear ideas. It takes time, but we are starting to see interesting things,” he acknowledged. “It's more structured, you can see it in how we attack.”
