Manchester United is looking to rebuild their squad now that the 2021-22 Premier League season is over and several players will become free agents on July 1st, giving Erik ten Hag the possibility of building a successful squad for the future or condemn the team to another year away from the top spots.

One of the players that has gathered the most interest is French midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni, who currently plays for Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, and even if he’s under contract with the Rouge et Blancs until 2024, he knows that he won’t be wearing Monaco’s colors next season.

So far. He’s been linked to several teams, including Liverpool, PSG and Real Madrid, with the latter becoming his top option, as Los Blancos already had conversations with him to join them, although the Spanish government could prevent that from happening.

Manchester United joins the pursue for Tchouaméni

According to reports from ESPN, a tax issue could prevent the French international from joining Real Madrid, Spanish government has labeled Monaco as a tax haven, which is why they will demand 24% of the profit if Monaco ends up selling him, something that Monaco won't accept and that won't happen if he leaves for Premier League instead.

Erik ten Hag learned about the issue that has paused the negotiations and is willing to match the $85 million offer that Los Blancos offered to Monaco, as he knows that Tchouaméni could become a key player on his plan to rebuild the roster and win a new Premier League title, something that they haven’t done since the 2013-14 season.
