Lionel Messi has been around for over 15 years, and you won't believe his toughest defenders.

Lionel Messi is one of the best players in history, and as a consequence, he has left thousands of defenders "victims" of his great talent. Top players like Sergio Ramos (although now they are teammates), Virgil Van Dijk, Pepe or Godín, have suffered, to give an example.

Now, an old interview with DAZN has gone viral, in which Lionel Andrés Messi spoke about the toughest and most complicated defenders he had to endure in his career, and his final response left no one indifferent, as he gave a name more than unexpected.

First he tried not to say any name: "There are matches that are ugly and strange. Matches in which you always have a man around permanently. It doesn't happen to me very often but it doesn't bother me either. Those are strange and different matches," he commented to get rid of the question, however, he ended up answering.

Who was his tougher defender?

Lionel Messi said the following: "I really don't remember many tough defenders. But the marking that Girona's Pablo Maffeo did to me was the most exaggerated". This way, Lionel admits that Pablo Maffeo, who's at the moment playing with Mallorca in LaLiga, was his tougher defender.
