Toni Kroos is one of the best midfielders of his generation. He shone at Bayern Munich between 2007 and 2014, when he was transferred to Real Madrid in exchange for a fortune just weeks after being Brazil 2014 World Cup winner with the German national team. Since then he has played 440 games for the Spanish side, scored 28 goals and provided 97 assists. In addition, he has won 20 titles there, including 4 Champions League titles.

However, this season his participation in the team decreased. Coach Carlo Ancelotti has decided that Toni, as well as Luka Modric, will start to give their places to the team's young midfielders, such as Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham and Aurélien Tchouaméni. As a result, the experienced players have played fewer games than in previous years.

This may perhaps influence the decision that Toni will soon have to make. His contract with Real Madrid expires on June 30 this year and for now there is no news about the renewal. In fact, as of this Monday he can negotiate with any club willing to sign him and he can leave as a free agent as of July 1. But reports indicate that his intention is to stay in Spain, so it seems unlikely that he will leave.

The future of his professional career is not the only decision Kroos has to make this semester. In June, the Euro 2024 to be held in Germany will begin and many want Kroos to be part of the national team. He announced his retirement after Euro 2021 and that is why he was not part of the squad for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, but lately some of his teammates, other former players and coaches have assured that he would be a good reinforcement for Julian Nagelsmann's team.

His former coach supports him

One of those who recently spoke in favor of Toni Kroos' return is Ottmar Hitzfeld. He coached the midfielder at Bayern Munich and, in fact, was the one who gave him his debut in 2007. When asked about the possibility of Toni playing for Germany at Euro 2024, he said: “Germany has many strong midfielders, but I can imagine that Toni Kroos, with his experience, intelligence, simplicity of play and organizational talent, would be beneficial to the team”.
