Edwin van der Sar has been approached by Erik ten Hag to become director of Football for Manchester United, according to reports in England. The former Red Devils and Netherlands goalkeeper, who is currently working as a Chief executive at the Amsterdam club, is said to be Ten Hag's top choice to take on the role. The manager is reportedly keen on bringing in a director of football to work alongside him at Old Trafford, with Van der Sar's name has emerged as a leading candidate.

The Dutch football manager is currently the coach of Manchester United and he has been recently praised for how he managed the team so far. Before Ten Hag arrived he coached the Netherlands' monarch Ajax. They established themselves as one of Europe's leading clubs, winning consecutive Eredivisie titles and reaching the Champions League semi-finals once.

On the other hand, Edwin van der Sar is a former professional player who played as a goalkeeper for Ajax and Manchester United. He is currently the chief executive officer of Ajax. He started his career with Ajax in 1992 and made his debut for the first team in 1994. He joined Manchester United in 2005 and won any trophy imaginable in England and Europe. He retired from professional football in 2011.

Van der Sar has been involved with Ajax since he retired from playing. He became a member of the board in 2012 and was appointed as the chief executive officer in 2016. He could be an excellent director of Football for Manchester United, he has a wealth of experience in the game, both as a player and as a manager, and he knows the club inside out.

Manchester United's current situation

Van der Sar is a smart and level-headed individual, who would be able to manage the expectations of United's demanding fans. But he won't come cheap since he could even charge up to 150K per year, would it be worth investing that amount for an executive?
