Inter Miami had a negative result against Atlanta United on the last MLS date. The Florida team placed itself in a great way in the previous rounds and came undefeated into this duel in which they would not have Lionel Messi due to injury. However, things did not go as expected and the reality is that Gerardo Martino's team came away empty-handed on their visit to Atlanta. Inter Miami lost 5-2 and let go of important points that would continue to bring them closer to the Major League Soccer playoffs.

After winning the 2023 Leagues Cup last summer, Inter Miami aims to try to qualify for the MLS playoffs. The Florida club established itself in an important way in a streak of games in which they did not know what it was like to lose. However, Miami let go of key points and now will have to take out the calculator to know what it really needs to qualify for the next playoffs.

Until a couple of months ago, Inter Miami seemed to be completely out of qualifying for the playoffs. However, the arrival of Lionel Messi changed everything. They added twelve games without knowing a defeat, were proclaimed champions of the Leagues Cup and reached the final of the US Open Cup.

What does Messi need to reach the playoffs?

Currently Inter Miami is in fourteenth position in the Eastern Conference, with twenty-eight units. Six points behind DC United, who occupies ninth position. Aiming for the first seven places, which are the ones that give you a direct pass to the next pass, seems impossible. However, places eight and nine play for the vacant place. Lionel Messi and his team have seven games to try to reach those places. The team also has the final of the US Open Cup, where they will try to establish themselves in an important way and achieve their second title in history. Messi could be getting his second championship at the United States in September 27th.
