It was June 29, 2004 when a short boy, with medium-long hair, white and who spoke little, put on the Argentine National Team shirt for the first time. At the age of 17, a certain Lionel Messi put on jersey number 17 to play his first friendly with the national team, facing Paraguay on the Argentinos Juniors field. The rest, of course, is history. That same day Leo scored a truly great goal and that goal, today, is in the hands of a man who wants the best in the world to fulfill his dream.
The striker, who is now 36 years old and has a World Cup under his arm, lived thousands of beautiful, normal, and ugly moments with the Albiceleste jacket. Without a doubt one of the most difficult to forget was that aforementioned day in which he grabbed the ball, dribbled at several players (including the goalkeeper) and sent it away. To make matters worse, the meeting had been organized by Julio Grondona so that the Spanish team did not interfere with the boy's possibility of choosing Argentina.
About 13 years after that legendary day of glory for Messi, the Argentinos Juniors club held an auction of the two arches of the Diego Armando Maradona stadium. There, partner Christian Gutiérrez Alup decided to make an offer and after a while he was awarded it. To his surprise, they later told him (with certification) that those irons had been on the Bicho's court since 2003. “And when was Leo's goal? Yes, in 2004,” he said in dialogue with TN.
One would think that arch cost millions, but it is far from that. “I paid 180 thousand pesos for it,” Christian confessed. Of course, at that time the dollar was only 63 Argentine pesos. Comparing with the price of the current European currency, the cost of the arch would be something like 2.7 million pesos. Still, it's less than many would have imagined. “My dream is for Messi to ask me. The work must return to the artist,” he said.
