David De Gea was very close to becoming a Real Madrid goalkeeper. It was in 2015. The white team and the goalkeeper had reached an agreement and it seemed that also Manchester United had given the approval to the transfer. However, everything was cut short because of a fax. The document that made the transfer official arrived out of time and De Gea stayed at Old Trafford.

A negotiation in which both parties agreed and signed the documents fell through due to the delay in sending documents.

The Manchester United board had to send the contract so that Real Madrid could register De Gea with the LFP (Professional Football League). The fax arrived with the necessary documentation at 00:32 hours. That is, 32 minutes after the deadline. The LFP did not authorize the signing because it was after the deadline.

"I don't care to talk about it. I'm only thinking about Manchester. It's my home. I feel very good here. It's a privilege, it's an honor to be here at this club. It's one of the best things in my life, being part of this club," De Gea said of that episode in an interview with the Daily Mail.

De Gea spoke about United's bad season

De Gea has spoken about Manchester United's season in which the English side has been one of the Premier League's failures. "For everyone and for me included it has been a very tough season. Even embarrassing at times. Some games the team was a disaster. We must learn so that it doesn't happen again. I hope everyone reflects," said De Gea.
