One of the most wanted finals though, is Argentina and Portugal. Fans have long awaited for not only the definition of a tournament between soccer's two biggest stars in the World, but also for the longest debate in soccer history to be over.

If Portugal and Argentina were to face each other in the finals, this would possibly be the end of the Cristiano vs Messi debate in soccer. Whoever wins the World Cup would have to be recognized as the greatest player of all time and would settle this debate.

What has to happen for this to be true?

Argentina and Portugal are in groups C and H respectively. If these two national teams end up first in their groups, a final between Portugal and Argentina is statistically possible. However, for this to happen Argentina would have to beat Brazil, Netherlands and Portugal in the final. Portugal would have to beat Spain, France and Argentina in the final. This is probable but very hard to achieve, although the possibility is there and is real for what will be Messi and Cristiano's last World Cup.
