At the beginning of the transfer window, Cristiano Ronaldo informed Manchester United's board of directors of his intention to leave the English club for another club that competes in the Champions League this season. The Portuguese insisted by all means to be sold, however, his wishes will not come true and he will stay at Old Trafford to fulfill the remaining year of his contract (June 2023). This has been revealed by a Spanish newspaper citing sources within the institution.

The aforementioned source adds that Manchester United has refused to sell its star player, as it considers him a key player in the new project of Dutch coach Erik ten Hag. In addition, the interest shown by certain clubs from the major European leagues has been fading over the weeks.

Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid and Napoli were the clubs linked with Cristiano Ronaldo's future. However, the high financial demands of the Portuguese player were the reason for no team to bid definitively for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

As it is, Cristiano will continue to play for Manchester United and Ten Hag hopes that he will end up being involved in the 2022-23 project, which aims to win the Premier League and Europa League. However, the Dutch coach is not willing to put up with the kind of rudeness that the Portuguese played against Rayo Vallecano.

Cristiano's controversy in United

As recalled, the Portuguese left the stadium before the end of the match after being substituted. "I don't accept it. Absolutely not. That is unacceptable. I tell you this, that that is unacceptable. We are a team, we are a squad. You have to stay until the end," Coach Ten Hag said on the subject.
