Chelsea have confirmed the signing of one of the most coveted 'jewels' of the Premier League market. Carney Chukwuemeka, youth player of Aston Villa, will be a new 'Blue' player from this summer. Both clubs confirmed the transfer in a statement: "The player has received permission to travel to London to negotiate personal terms and pass a medical," said the letter from Tuchel's side. The transfer price is in the region of £15 million plus variables.

Chukwuemeka's contract was due to expire in 2023, and Steven Gerrard's side tried hard to renew one of their most promising players. In the end, the player did not accept any of the club's offers and ended up leaving for a team in the ‘Big-Six’.

The young English midfielder, who was named best player of the U-19 European Championship he won with England, played a total of 14 games with Villa's first team and quickly stood out for his physical display and his arrival to the area at such a young age. Barça became seriously interested in him this summer, but the price they were asking from England ended up frustrating the transfer.

The player will sign a long-term contract with the Blues until 2028, where he will fight to earn a place in a star-studded midfield. He will compete with the likes of Kovacic, Jorginho, Kanté, Mount and Gallagher for a place in Tuchel's plans.

More moves for Chelsea's new ownership

The signing of the Aston Villa talent is the third for Todd Boehly's Chelsea after the arrivals of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly. Marc Cucurella could be the next to arrive at Stamford Bridge in the coming days, or even hours.
