Manchester United has suffered another loss today in its UEFA Champions League debut where Bayern Münich managed to score four goals versus three made by the Red Devils in the second half.

This is Manchester United’s fourth straight loss if we also count the ones from the Premier League, where last week they lost 5-1 to Brighton Hoves. As the club is having one of its most terrible moments, many questions have been asked by the fans and one of them is the performance of the Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana, who was picked by the Red Devils from Inter with a 52.5 million euros (about 55.9 mdlls) deal.

Onana’s reliability has decreased since the beginning of the 2023-2024 Premier League season. Although his saving percentage (72.09%) is higher than David De Gea (70.14%), nevertheless, the former Spanish goalkeeper has 58 more shots than Onana does.

David De Gea, who was Manchester United’s goalkeeper for 12 years, got separated from the team on July 8 2023, when the English club announced that both parties couldn’t reach an agreement for his contract extension. De Gea became Manchester United’s goalkeeper in 2011, and it was one of the most expensive transfers, where Man United paid 23 million euros (24.4 mdlls) to Atletico Madrid in order to add De Gea to their squad.

Who’s gonna be Manchester United’s next goalkeeper?

Even though Erik Ten Hag has so much confidence over Onana, the reality is that Manchester United needs a new goalkeeper. Onana’s contract will expire until June 30 with option of a one year extension.

However, according to information from insiders of the English club, Manchester United is looking to pick up goalkeeper Diogo Costa from Oporto who’s been having a tremendous season. The Red Devils are willing to throw a 70 million euros (74.6 mdlls) offer that he won’t refuse in the next winter window market or until next year, before FC Barcelona or Bayern Münich goes for the 23 year old goalkeeper.
