David Luiz and Flamengo played in the semifinal of the 2023 Club World Cup to which they went as CONMEBOL representatives after winning last year's Copa Libertadores. However, the team got an unpleasant surprise against a team they thought they would overcome easily. 

The Brazilian player is remembered by many after that catastrophic event where he collided with Raul Jimenez and hit him, presumably unintentionally, until the Mexican fell unconscious and suffered a skull injury that almost ended his career as a pro soccer player.
