Milan's Swedish international striker Zlatan Ibrahimovc, 40, will remain with the Italian side after accepting the club's proposal, to which he will remain linked until June 2023, Italian media reported today.

In the absence of official confirmation, which will take place in the next few hours, it has emerged that the player, who underwent surgery on his left knee last May and will still be out for 5 to 6 months, will be paid one million euros plus bonuses linked to goals scored and matches played.

Ibrahimovic missed much of Milan's Serie A title-winning campaign due to a lineup issue. He will not return to the pitch until the end of 2022, a couple of months after his 41st birthday, following knee surgery in May.

"For the last six months I have played without an anterior cruciate ligament in my left knee. The knee was inflamed for six months. I was only able to train with the team 10 times in the last six months. I received more than 20 injections in six months. I had my knee drained once a week for six months. Painkillers every day for six months," he said last May, unveiling the ordeal he endured this year.

"I barely slept for six months because of the pain. I never suffered so much on and off the field. I made something impossible possible," he added on Instagram.

Zlatan continues to score

During last season, Ibrahimovic made 27 appearances and scored eight goals with three assists between all competitions.
