Carlos Vela played for the last time for Mexico national team on July 2018, when Mexico was defeated by Brazil on the last World Cup and eliminated of the international tournament on round of 16. After two years of that game, there are some chances of Vela coming back, but they are not that big.

Gerardo Martino should be the one taking the lead and trying to convince Vela to come back. The player, aged 31, assured that he didn’t see himself playing once again with the national team, but that he couldn’t affirm that won’t be happening. All in all, he left a door open if they call him.

Now, Tata has the responsibility to decide and calling Vela should be an option for him. Despite his relationship with the Mexican legend may not be the best one, he really needs the forward. It should be a problem for their polemic coexistence, but a solution for the national team.

Vela is the second Mexican player who scored the most amount of goals (50) from 2018 until now. With two years to go to the World Cup, just Raúl Jiménez (58) netted more balls than Vela. Behind these two top players we can find José Juan Macías (37), Henry Martin (34) and Hirving Lozano (32).
