Jorge Campos is one of the greatest footballers to come out of Mexico, he made a career for himself as a goalkeeper and sometimes as a striker if the need be in the match. He played for many clubs in his career across Mexico and the United States. He began his career with UNAM, a club he had three spells at, and scored 34 goals despite playing mostly as a goalkeeper. He sometimes get bored of goalkeeping, see what he does. His nickname as a footballer is El Brody.

 

What record does Campos hold in the USA?

Outside of the Mexican league, Jorge Campos spent a little time in his career in the Major League Soccer. He played for Los Angeles Galaxy for one season and returned to Mexico to play for Cruz Azul and later returned to the USA to play for Chicago Fire, he left again after one year and returned to Mexico with UNAM after three years and four clubs away. He was the first major foreign player to play in the MLS.

 

He also played in the United States, where he starred in Major League Soccer's first three seasons for the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chicago Fire. He was the first major foreign star to be signed by the league. and enjoyed considerable popularity in the United States. 

 

Why is Jorge Campos called El Inmortal?

Jorge Campos did not get the nickname El Inmortal until years after he retired from professional football. He worked briefly as the assistant manager of El Tri. After quitting the role, he has been working as a commentator for Azteca TV commentating on Liga MX and El Tri matches. He works with Cristian Martinoli and Luis García. Soccer Hall of Fame began inducting footballers in 2011, Jorge Campos was one of the inaugural inductee class of 2011 alongside superstars of his generation like Pele and Diego Maradona, then Martinoli too advantage of the situation and named him El inmortal because his career is immortalised.

 

What special skills does Jorge Campos have?

Jorge Campos is known for his self-made colourful football attire and is a special breed of player. He is believed to be too short for a goalkeeper at 1.68m but his leaping ability, athleticism, and speed when rushing off his line, as well as his ability to organize his defense, enabled him to cover for his shortness. He can also play as a striker, he asked to be used as a striker at the beginning of his career because he doesn't want to be sitting on the bench and he scored 14 goals. Sometimes he starts in goal and ends up as a striker if need be.
