The player, who was on the field with the number 73 on his back, is a young talent of just 16 years of age who has just fulfilled his dream of making his debut with a Major League Soccer team.

And not only did he debut with the Seattle Sounders, but the player also made his debut in an international tournament such as the CONCACAF Champions League. That is why it is worth knowing everything about this young player.

Who is Obed Vargas?

Obed Vargas is an American professional soccer player who plays for the Seattle Sounders of the MLS, and who has just made his debut in the CONCACAF Champions League, but until recently he played for the Tacoma Defiance of the USL, an affiliate team of the Sounders.

The youngster of Mexican descent began his career with Cook Inlet Soccer Club, before moving to Washington and joining the youth setup of Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders FC.

Where and when was Obed Vargas born?

Vargas was born in Anchorage, Alaska, the United States on August 5, 2005, and after playing in the Sounders FC academy for two seasons, he signed professionally with MLS affiliate Tacoma Defiance on May 7, 2021.

Most likely his coaches saw the talent that the young Mexican-American was overflowing and so a couple of days later, on May 9, Vargas made his debut for Tacoma Defiance in the USL Championship against LA Galaxy II.

In his debut, he started and played 66 minutes in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw. And later the player fulfilled his dream and made his first-team debut for Sounders FC on July 22, 2021.

Obed Vargas: the next bone of contention between Mexico and the U.S.

Vargas already has experience with the USMNT in its youth teams, having been called up to the U.S. U-15 and U-20 national teams, but fortunately for the Mexican national soccer team, he has not made his official debut so far, so he can still be "stolen" by El Tri to see him in lower categories.

As soon as he finished his match yesterday, many media outlets, especially in Mexico, began to speculate that the National Teams Directorate, currently headed by Gerardo Torrado, urgently needs to start calling up this player.

Perhaps this need is to prevent the same thing from happening to the Mexican national soccer team that happened to Ricardo Pepi, who had the opportunity to decide between the USMNT and El Tri and preferred the former.
