The Sporting Kansas City has some money to spend. In a trade with the D.C. United, the Missouri team received $50.000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) that can be used next season. In exchange, Sporting send to Washington a international roster spot needed by the Black-and-Red to activate Peruvian forward Edison Flores from the injury reserves list.

The General Allocation Money is money that MLS's franchises can use to sign new players or to allocate on their current squad to expand their available cap space. That's the general notion of the GAM, but it can be used almost as pleased by each club. Sporting squad is already good, but with extra money next year it can always get better.

The extra GAM can be spend on reducing a player's Salary Budget Charge, even in the case of the Designated Player whose contract can rise up to $150.000; it can be used to sign new players from outside the MLS; it can be use to re-sign existing MLS players; and it can be destined to off-set acquisition costs, like loans or transfer fees. Of course, it can also be used to extend a current player's contract.

On the other hand, it's at least curious that Sporting Kansas City had left an international roster spot go, considering that MLS's transfer window closes at the end of October and the Wizards are showing some tremendous progress in their game. It can now be imagined that they will be an interesting playoff contender on the West. This makes the case for one more international player to join the Missouri team. But it seems like Peter Vermes's team is both trying to achieve good results this seasons and planing on the next one, all at the same time. Good for them!
