What were the injuries that kept Carlos Vela out of 2020, 2021 and 2022? That's the question LAFC fans are asking themselves after seeing the Mexican's display of talent in Week 1 of MLS 2022.

Carlos Vela scores hat-trick in less than 50 minutes in LAFC vs Colorado Rapids MLS 2022

The Mexican had a dream debut, scoring a hat-trick against the Colorado Rapids, who proved in the flesh the Mexican's quality.

What injuries sidelined Carlos Vela in 2020 and 2021?

In 2021, a thigh injury sidelined the player for 23 days, during which he missed 12 matches with Los Angeles Football Club

The figure may not seem very important when compared to the hamstring injury that in the 2020 campaign kept the Mexican out of action for 14 games.

That injury prevented the MLS public from returning to enjoy the Mexican in full swing, who had in 2019 a dream campaign in Major League Soccer having scored 36 goals throughout the campaign.

So when it became known that the Mexican striker was injured again in 2021, the hopes of LAFC fans were dashed as Vela had been the driving force of the club in the previous campaign.

And the striker had to settle for closing out the 2021 campaign with just 1 goal on his record.

What injury sidelined Carlos Vela in 2022?

After his great debut against the Colorado Rapids at the start of the 2022 campaign, the striker was at his best since 2019 and all the club's fans were also ready for another dream season.

However, in the week 2 MLS match against the Portland Timbers, the player could not finish the match because he started to resent his knees.

The ghosts of the past immediately appeared and everyone feared the worst.

Carlos Vela's departure put his fans and the club's supporters on alert, as they feared the worst and that the player would once again have to miss another MLS campaign.

And the fears were not unfounded after the display of genius that the player born in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico made against the Colorado Rapids.

However, the club's coach, Steve Cherundolo, calmed the waters with the medical report he shared with the club's fans and the press in general.

According to Cherundolo: "We had a good and productive week of training, we were able to recover some guys from injuries. Carlos, above all, trained and will be with us against Inter Miami".

With this news, the club and its supporters can feel more at ease.

Cherundolo also added that "Carlos was feeling something in and around his knee. Nothing serious. He is back on the training field after a few days. It was good news and bad news at halftime. So, nothing serious, but he recovered very quickly and he's fine."
