Kylian Mbappe is in the news again, and this time he's in the news because of another mega transfer. The last time the Frenchman moved, it was on a record-breaking deal of €180m from Monaco to Paris Saint-Germain. This transfer fee made him the second-most expensive player of all-time behind teammate, Neymar, who moved to PSG during the same 2017 summer transfer window.

The €180m deal that took Mbappe to PSG also remains the highest fee ever paid for a teenager in world football. Mbappe was just 19 years when he joined PSG on loan in 2017. Other teenage stars such as Atletico Madrid's Jiao Felix have come close to breaking the record since then. Perhaps Erling Haaland could have but he moved for a modest fee of €22.5m from RB Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund. By the time the next transfer for Haaland would come across, he would be well above his teenage years so Mbappe's record will remain intact.

On the other hand, the Major League Soccer match (MLS) has not been prolific for their development and sale of youngsters. Christian Pulisic, Giovanni Reyna and Weston McKennie are some of the popular youngsters to have come from the MLS but they all left for Europe early and for little money.

However, the teenager with the highest transfer fee from the MLS is Alphonso Davies. In 2018, Davies became not just the most expensive teenager from the MLS but indeed the most expensive player to be sold from the MLS when he completed a $13m move from the Vancouver Whitecaps to Bayern Munich. Alphonso Davies was just 17 years old at the time.

This means that the difference between the most expensive teenager in the world as compared with the MLS is more than 10 times or approximately $197m. By conversion, Mbappe's transfer fee to PSG would be around $211m.  Mbappe is said to be the subject of another €160m bid to take him from PSG to Real Madrid this summer.
