Facundo Torres is very close to leaving Peñarol to become the new player of Orlando City of the MLS.

Last Sunday hours were very important as there were only details that separated the Cuervo from U.S. soccer, even though the board of directors of Peñarol met, via Zoom, to discuss the offer that arrived at the club the last few days.

After the meeting held by the Aurinegras board of directors at the end of this week, different guidelines could be established to confirm the departure of the mirasol attacker next week.

Transfer fee agreement

According to Ovación's sources at the club, the amount at which the deal would be finalized is almost US$ 13 million, which would leave Peñarol US$ 9 million.

Meanwhile, Peñarol would also keep a percentage of a future sale, although this has not yet been precisely defined and is likely to happen when the final agreement is sealed.

However, Jaime Ojeda, a journalist and MLS regular, confirmed in a tweet on Sunday night that Orlando City has already reached an agreement with the Uruguayan club.

According to the journalist, the deal would be for US$10 million plus a US$2 million bonus and they would obtain 70% of the player's shares, while Peñarol would keep 25% of any future sale of the Uruguayan star.

Facundo Torres is liked by Diego Alonso, Uruguay's national coach

Thus, the 21-year-old player, who has already made his debut in the Uruguayan national team, will soon leave the Aurinegro team with a total of 16 goals scored in 71 matches and with the fact of having been champion of the 2021 Uruguayan tournament.

After making his debut under Diego Forlán in August 2020, he gradually earned his place in the starting lineup and ended up being a very important man for the Aurinegro and a key player in the Peñarol team headed by Mauricio Larriera during 2021.

Facundo Torres to become Uruguay's third largest player transaction to a foreign team

This transfer for 70% of the total amount would be a record for a player leaving Uruguay, only surpassed by the transfers for the entire amount of Sebastian Coates (12 million euros from Nacional to Liverpool) and Brian Rodriguez (10, 3 million from Peñarol to Los Angeles FC), but higher in terms of absolute value than those of Gastón Pereiro (7 million euros from Nacional to PSV Eindhoven), Federico Valverde (5 million euros from Peñarol to Real Madrid) and Federico Rodríguez (4.2 million euros from Peñarol to Genoa).
