Lionel Messi has been out of contract with Barcelona since June after his former contract expired and even though reports say he has already agreed to a new contract, it only awaits official announcement.

The Argentine could still play in the USA in Major League Soccer if he leaves Barcelona as he has expressed his interest in playing in America and is currently vacationing with his family in the US after Copa America victory.

In December 2020, Messi fueled speculation he could move to the US by buying a £5m mansion in Miami, leading to the media to think he's hinting he could play for Inter Miami CF, owned by former Manchester United player David Beckham.

Messi's last contract with Barcelona was worth $83m per season and should he want to move to the US in the future, he could earn more than that, say about $100m, but it's unlikely because according to reports he will continue in the ambassador role for Barcelona after retiring.
