Over the past few years, Major League Soccer has improved tremendously. While MLS used to focus on show and entertainment, bringing European stars close to retirement, it is now trying to enhance sporting competition with many young talents and important couches.

However, Major League Soccer is still far from being able to compete against the best leagues in the world, such as the Italian's Serie A, the Spanish's La Liga, the English's Premier League, the German's Bundesliga and the French's Ligue 1. What should MLS improve?

Mainly, there is evident the difference in the positions that the teams decide to strengthen. Clearly, MLS teams spend millions of dollars to bring in talented goal scorers and midfielders from Europe, such as the Argentinian Gonzalo Higuain, the Swedish Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the Mexican Chicharito Hernandez.

On the other hand, teams do not spend large amounts of money on defenders and goalkeepers. A clear example of this is the match between Inter Miami and Montreal Impact this Saturday. The goalkeepers of both teams made mistakes that are constantly repeated in the league. Thus, if MLS wants to compete with the best leagues in the world, teams will have to strengthen their defense.
