In recent years, Mexican and American teams have increased their sales to European soccer. Neither way, Liga MX still mantains a considerable difference with Major League Soccer when it comes to the quantity of players transferred to Europe and the amounts paid for them.

Mexican clubs have sold a greater number of footballers to the European market, and figures confirm this. In the last five years, Liga MX has obtained an average of 12 million dollars by each Mexican player sold to a European club. In the same period and for the same concept, the MLS has managed to raise, on average, 2 million dollars for each American player.

In this comparison, only the players who were traded from club to club are considered and not those who left as free agents. Similarly, only footballers who were transferred directly from MLS or Liga MX to Europe were considered, and not those who, although they are Mexican or American players, did not play in any of those league.

In these last five years, the most expensive transfer of a Mexican from Liga MX to Europe has been Edson Álvarez, who was sold from América to Ajax Amsterdam for 17 million dollars. Álvarez is followed by Diego Lainez and Hirving Lozano, who were both sold for 15 million. In fourth place stands Erick Gutiérrez, who was sold for 9 million, and in fifth place is spotted Gerardo Arteaga, for whom 4 million dollars were paid.

In the same period but in MLS the highest transfer of an American to a European team was Matt Miazga, who was transferred from New York Red Bulls to Chelsea FC for 5.4 million dollars. He is followed by Tyler Adams, who was sold to RB Leipzig for $ 3 million, also from NYRB. In third place stands Chris Richards, transferred to Bayern Munich for 1.3 million. The last two players of the top five were Henry Wingo and Chris Dunkin, who were sold for 270,000 and 180,000 dollars, respectively.
