The MLS is a league that is constantly growing and all the time its directors are looking for how to make more people feel attracted to it. In the last few hours a project has emerged for the MLS to unify with the MX League and thus create a new tournament between the two organizations. That could be the end of the traditional MLS and Liga MX.
Former MLS manager Ivan Gazidis spoke again about the possibility of holding a single tournament between Mexico and the United States and once again argued that this union should be made to benefit North American soccer. If this happens, it would be interesting to see which Liga MX teams come out winning and which ones lose.
Today Ivan Gazidis is no longer related to MLS but he is an executive in Serie A with AC Milan. It would clearly be very important for worldwide marketing and for the growth of MLS but it is not very clear how Liga MX would benefit, which is a league with much more history and presence than MLS.
From the MLS there is no doubt that they are looking for ways to make it grow and unify it with the Liga MX is more than important. If the MLS wants to do this, it must offer you a plan that will convince the Liga MX teams and all the leaders. At the moment it is something far away but it is not difficult to think since the MLS is becoming more important with each passing day.
The joint realization between Mexico and the United States for the 2026 World Cup may be something important in the face of this plan to bring together the MLS and Liga MX. If the managers see that they work well together and that there is a possibility of growth for both leagues, there is no doubt that they will sit down to listen to the proposals. It is a matter of time to know if a new tournament will be created between Liga MX and MLS.
