With the new games suspended by coronavirus cases is now almost impossible to imagine the MLS teams ending the regular season with the same games played by all.

New games had to be suspended this week, as it has been happening during the whole season due to coronavirus. This time, what can be named as different is that is now very unlikely to think that the MLS will resume the regular season with all teams having played the same amount of games.

In this sense, MLS officials are starting to consider the calculation of the points per game (ppg) rate. With five weeks to go there are teams with two games less than other. It doesn't look so dramatic, but it could turn dramatic if more coronavirus cases appear and more games need to be called off.

For example: right now Los Angeles Galaxy has15 points but has just played 16 games. All teams above them, even that ones in playoffs positions, have played 18. This means that if LAG beats Vancouver this Sunday they would have a better ppg rate than many other teams with more points. From midnight to midday, the Galaxy could turn into a playoff contender.

The Seattle Sounders, that topped the Western Conference, have also played just 16 games. They share the top of the conference with local rivals Timbers, which have one more game. If the ppg rate finally is decided, it would be very difficult to turn the Sounders down from the top.
