Lionel Messi has revealed that he is in talks with French giants Paris Saint-Germain for a possible transfer this season. The Argentine captain confirmed today that he'll be leaving Barcelona this summer after 'financial and structural obstacles' meant that player and club could not resolve a contractual impasse. The 6-time Ballon d'Or winner also stated that he is in talks to join PSG this summer but nothing is agreed yet.
With many other clubs also interested in the playmaker, PSG has to make a convincing offer to Messi to make him choose the club. The Paris Club is rumoured to have offered the former Barcelona captain an impressive €40m on a 2-year with the option to extend for another year. This comes to an annual wage of €20m and a weekly wage of €385,000. When compared to his last contract at Barcelona, it is still far off because of the €1.36m weekly deal he was on at the Nou Camp.
When compared to his prospective teammates at PSG, it is clear that Lionel Messi is earning way less than both Neymar and Mbappe. Neymar just signed a new deal in May 2021 that will take him till 2025. This is because Neymar is on a weekly wage of £859,000 which comes to £24.66m annually.
Meanwhile, Mbappe is the second highest-earner at PSG with a weekly salary of £403,000 and an annual wage of £20.96m. The French forward has just one year on his contract though and the board of Paris Saint-Germain are ready to offer increased terms to the player to convince him to stay at the Parc des Princes. With the proposed contract for Lionel Messi, he would come in on the list of highest earners in the 3rd position due to the presence of Marquinhos who earns £252,000 weekly at the club.
