Toronto FC had a disastrous performance at home, losing 1-4 to the New York Red Bulls, who, unlike the Canadian team, started the 2022 MLS season on a high note. The visitors had their best player in Lewis Morgan, who scored three goals in the first half to give his side three more points.

The preview was very emotional with a tribute to the Ukrainian people and the singing of the national anthems of Canada and the United States for the first time at BMO Field this season.

However, New York RB took an early lead. In the 17th minute, Lewis Morgan took a first-time shot inside the box and put the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Alex Bono.

In the 24th minute, the New York team took advantage of Toronto FC's poor defense and Lewis Morgan took advantage of Klimala's assist to once again take a first-time shot, and with that, the score was already 0-2 in favor of the visitors.

The home side tried to respond with Jesus Jimenez, who scored his first goal of the season in an individual action, where he left opponents behind him in the box with only his waist movements. The Spaniard beat the goalkeeper and shot into the center despite two defenders trying to block the ball.

Lewis Morgan scored his hat trick with assistance from Klimala

Toronto FC's joy was short-lived. Lewis Morgan scored his hat-trick in the 40th minute when he took advantage of the Reds' bad luck on a corner kick. The Red Bulls weaved a perfect counterattack, Kimala gave his third assist of the day and the Scotsman Morgan arrived alone to the goal to beat Bono once again.

In the 42nd minute, Aaron Long headed home from a free-kick to seal the game.

The game was sealed in the first half and the Canadian team had no answer in the second half, so the Bob Bradley-led side suffered a defeat in their MLS 2022 home debut.

Salcedo started the game

Mexico's Carlos Salcedo was introduced in front of his new fans, took the field at BMO Field as a starter, and was cautioned. The 'Titan' played 80 minutes and could do little to prevent his team's defeat.

Next week, in the third MLS matchday, Toronto FC will visit Columbus Crew. Meanwhile, New York RB will host Minnesota United.
