With this move, the Cowboys are looking to freshen up their roster with Farfan, a 23-year-old defender who can help them keep their team from conceding as many goals in the upcoming tournament.

FC Dallas needs Farfan's help in conceding so many goals

FC Dallas was one of the highest-scoring teams last season, conceding 56 goals while scoring 47, placing 11th overall in the Western Conference.

In other words, the team had a -9 goal difference, with only 33 points last season, so they were nowhere near the top teams in their conference, Colorado Rapids and Seattle Sounders.

As an example, LAFC, the team from which Farfán comes from, only allowed 51 goals against and scored 53 goals, with a goal difference of 2, so the Texan club, with whom they just exchanged players today, was better placed.

Farfán was part of the Portland Timbers 2020 team that won the MLS is Back 2020 Tournament in Orlando, Florida.

He has been called up to several U.S. national team camps, including the U.S. men's national team camp in December 2020. He made his senior national team debut in a 6-0 win over El Salvador on Dec. 9.

LAFC needs the maturity of Ryan Hollingshead

Although LAFC's defense did not have as many problems as FC Dallas', their problem lies in the midfield.

The attack of the club in which Carlos Vela also plays had a good attack in the 2021 campaign, however, this attack was not enough to reach the top of the competition.

And the difference in points collected with teams with the leaders of the competition such as Sporting Kansas City (58 points), Seattle Sounders (60 points), and Colorado Rapids (61 points) is abysmal.

And undoubtedly that is a symptom that they need someone with experience, but above all someone who can serve as support for the strikers, to have greater depth in the attack.

That is why Hollingshead's arrival at a club that needs more order in the midfield is understandable.

Hollingshead, 30, leaves FC Dallas after 222 appearances for the club in all competitions, amassing 20 goals and 12 assists over eight seasons.

The 2017 MLS Humanitarian of the Year joined FC Dallas in 2014 and was part of the team that won the 2016 MLS Supporters' Shield and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup
