MLS 2021: Who is the highest paid player in US soccer?

MLS released the salaries of each team, and most notable were the highest salaries. Inter has a payroll of $17.8 million, while the Vancouver Whitecaps, at $8.6 million, are among the lowest in MLS.  Despite the losses due to the pandemic, MLS is investing heavily in the salaries of its star players.

When it comes to the league's top earners, one thing stands out - the lack of Americans. Of the top 10 highest paid players in MLS, only one player is from the United States. South Americans account for more than half of the top 10 and Mexican internationals are the two highest earners in all of Major League Soccer.

10. Franco Jara - FC Dallas - $2.9 Million

Franco Jara scored 7 goals last year and will look to break through in 2021. The 32-year-old Argentinean is looking to continue increasing his goal-scoring streak and place himself among the league's best players. 

9. Victor Wanyama - CF Montreal - $3 Million

Who? Someone named Victor Wanyama, who played for Tottenham, but hey even more impressive is how CF Montreal can shell out 3 million a year on a defensive midfielder.

8. Maxi Moralez - New York City FC - $3.2 Million

Maxi Moralez, has a great salary at NYCFC, between goals and assists he earned a place in their team and is one of the best on their roster. At 34 years old he is nearing the end of his career but he still has a lot to give to NYFC.

7. Rodolfo Pizarro - Inter Miami - $3.3 Million

After a difficult year, 2021 did not start in the best way, the Mexican has too many ups and downs to become the player everyone expects. But he will have to continue his efforts to make his salary worthwhile.

6. Jozy Altidore - Toronto FC - $3.6 Million

Altidore returned to the league in 2015 and his salary was always among the highest. With many injuries to his credit and just two goals scored last season, Toronto already ensures that it will be very difficult to continue paying his salary.

He was the highest paid in 2020 but is now in third place in 2021. Gonzalo Higuain his first season at Inter Miami was not one of his best, but he and his 2021 team The Argentine looks more comfortable and much more lethal in front of goal. Inter Miami's hopes are centered on Gonzalo Higuain.

2. Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez - LA Galaxy - $6 million

Javier Hernandez, did not have a good 2020, but Chichiarito after a good start in 2021, has all the chips on the table to win this season's MVP.

1. Carlos Vela - LAFC - $6.3 million

The best player in MLS without objections is Carlos Vela, who gave LAFC many victories, with his good performances in which he added both goals and assists.
