When he started his career in Estudiantes Tecos de UAG, Jürgen Damm was one of the most promising and exiting players in Mexican soccer. So much that Grupo Pachuca decided to buy the whole Tecos team as it was cheaper than acquire Damm’s lone economic right.

He had a breakout season with CF Pachuca in the 2013-14 Liga MX season that placed him not only in the radar of Mexico National Team, where he debuted in 2015, on a friendly match against Ecuador, but also gathered interest of multiple European teams, including Manchester United.

Damm was also said to be faster than Cristiano Ronaldo, although lately that’s the only thing he’s been known for: his speed on the side of the pitch and his lack of ability to cross, which is why he didn’t succeed with Atlanta United, where he played 24 games in two seasons.

His involvement in various scandals

Damm has had a career full of scandals since his departure of Pachuca to join Liga MX side Tigres, as he demanded to have a share of the transfer fee that Pachuca obtained of his permanent move. After suing the parties involved, he obtained a share of $5 million.

Reports also suggest that he wasn’t clear with Tigres when they approached him to renew his contract in 2020, until he finally signed with Atlanta United, which is why he was erased from the first team his last semester in El Universitario.

The latest scandal in which he was involved was with Atlanta United, as the Five Stripes hadn’t considered him for the 2022 MLS Season, but he refused to end his contract or lower his salary, something that forced ATL UTD to buyout his contract to also open a Designated Player spot on the roster.

What will happen to his career?

Now, the 29-year-old right-winger became a free agent just a day before the MLS Season starts and has no offers to continue his soccer career. He still has the chance of joining any MLS team, although his high demands could prevent most of the teams to even consider adding him. Newest MLS franchise Charlotte FC could acquire his services, as they only have one winger on their roster.

If he wanted to return to Liga MX, he’d have to wait until Clausura 2022 is over, as Liga MX rules don’t allow to sign any players that weren’t free agents after February first, date when he was still part of Atlanta United’s roster.
