It’s no lie to say that Carlos Vela is one of the best active Mexican players, as he’s established as the face of Los Angeles FC since his arrival at MLS in 2018. But now that his contract is about to expire, teams all over the world are trying to sign him for the 2022-23 season, including RCD Mallorca.

Mallorca is on a quest to save the season and avoid relegation, something that Luis García Plaza couldn’t help them do, which is why Los Bermellones decided to part ways with him and sign Javier “Vasco” Aguirre with only nine games left on the season.

When Aguirre took the job, Mallorca were in one of the relegation spots, but in the four games that he’s coached them so far, they’ve left the bottom of the table and are two spots above the relegation zone, thanks to the victories 1-0 over Atlético Madrid and 2-1 over Deportivo Alavés.

Aguirre knows that the five remaining games will be played as finals, as not only the future of the team depends on it, but also his future. But given the way they’ve played the last few games, they have the salvation in their own hands, which is why “El Vasco” is already planning next season.

“Vasco” pursues the addition of Carlos Vela

One of the first things that Javier Aguirre wants to do is to acquire talented players that could immediately improve the current roster, especially if they can arrive as free agents, just like Carlos Vela, who hasn’t closed the doors to returning to La Liga.

But Los Angeles FC knows about his possible departure and given that they have built the team around Vela, they’re not planning on letting him go that easily, which is why they already established negotiations with “El Bombardero”.

Reports from Fox Sports, Carlos Vela won’t leave MLS and is finalizing the details of his new contract with LAFC, as they offered him an 18-month contract extension with the option of adding another year, which will tie him to the Black & Gold for at least until the end of the 2023 MLS Season.

How much will he earn now?

According to reports, during the first four years of his contract, Vela earned up to $6.5 million, a figure that decreased to $3.8 million salary base and up to $4.5 million with bonuses when LAFC decided to extend his contract six more months. With his new contract, Vela will have a salary base of $4.5 million that can go up to $6 million with bonuses.
