Inter Miami owners David Beckham and Jorge and José Mas have completed a total takeover of the MLS franchise from former owners and former co-owners Marcelo Claure and Masayoshi Son in an equity worth about $150m.

The first match Inter Miami played after the takeover resulted in a 0-4 loss to New York Red Bulls at the DRV PNK Stadium which leaves Miami in danger of missing out on the playoffs.

Miami ended the match with 10 men after Nicholas Figal was shown a red card after a second bookable offence in the 38 minute. The first half ended 2-0, Patryk Klimala and Omir Fernandez gave the New York side the lead and Fabio added a second half brace to make it a humiliating scoreline.

Stats from the match

Red Bulls scored 3goals plus for the gist time this year.

Total Shots (on target): Inter Miami 2(1)-27(9) Red Bulls

The loss ended Miami's three matches winning streak and their six games unbeaten run

Miami has now lost six home games, four while conceding 3 or more goals.

It was not a good way to celebrate the takeover but David Beckham was proud of the progress they've made as owners of the club. "We are immensely proud of the progress we've made over the past year and a half in Major League Soccer, and we are grateful to have had Marcelo and Masayoshi with us for the first part of our journey," he said in a statement.
