Lionel Messi had a lot of close friends that he made during his professional career. One of the most remarkable ones is Javier Mascherano, the player with which he shared the squad at FC Barcelona and at Argentina national team. Together, they played some unforgettable matches and gained many titles.

A couple of weeks ago, Mascherano announced his retirement, after 17 years as a professional player. He did so at Estudiantes, where he played less than a year when returning from Chinese side HB CFFC. During the last hours it was rumored that Masche has a clear chance to return and at the MLS.

As he has retired, it won’t be as a player, but yes as an assistant from the head coach. Who gave him this possibility according to the local press is Gabriel Heinze, set to be the new manager from Atlanta United. Both Argentinians have a great relationship and could team up to have their first experience in the U.S.

Mascherano had an incredible professional career, after playing at River Plate, Corinthians, West Ham, Liverpool, FC Barcelona, HB CFFC and Estudiantes. Even though he is now retired, he has always said that he was going to stay linked to soccer during all his life and this could be a great chance for him
