Mexican striker Javier Chicharito Hernández, of the Los Angeles Galaxy, was elected this Thursday "Player of the Month" in US soccer in MLS. Hernández scored seven goals and added an assist in seven games since late April to help the Galaxy stay in third place in the Western Conference with a 5-2-0 record.

Chicharito started the season with a two-goal outing against Inter Miami CF in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for which he was named the first Player of the Week for the 2021 season.

The following weekend, Hernández scored a hat trick to lead the Galaxy to a 3-2 victory against the New York Red Bulls in Carson, California. He was again named 'Player of the Week'.

The Mexican became the second player in MLS history to score five goals in the first two games of the season, joining Brian Ching, who scored five goals in the first two games in Houston Dynamo history in 2006. He also became the sixth Mexican-born player to score a hat trick in league history.

His seven goals in the Galaxy's first five games tied for second-highest to start a season in league annals, just one behind the league record set by Landon Donovan, who scored eight goals in the first five games. in 2008 for the Galaxy.

Hernández scored his sixth goal of the season on May 8 in his team's 2-1 win over the Los Angeles FC. He then scored seventh the following week to seal a 2-0 win against Austin FC at home. The Galaxy return to action after the international break on June 19 in a clash against the unbeaten Seattle Sounders FC.
