The MLS franchise Chicago Fire and the Premier League club will close the signing of the American goalkeeper for the future of the 'Blue' squad.

In the midst of the 2022 MLS season in which Chicago Fire is fighting to get into the playoffs, it was revealed that Gabriel Slonina is very close to becoming a new player for Chelsea of the Premier League for the next few seasons, in what represents a huge leap for the career of the young American goalkeeper and the future of the USMNT.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that the MLS franchise and Todd Boehly's club reached an agreement for the signing of 'Gaga' Slonina, in which Chicago Fire will receive $15.3 million dollars (including variables), so it only remains for the 18 year-old goalkeeper to complete medical exams and sign his contract in coming days.

The information indicates that after sealing his link with the 'Blues', Slonina will return to Chicago to continue with the season within the North American league, so he will remain with the MLS team and will report to Chelsea until January 1, 2023, most likely to be the understudy of Senegalese Édouard Mendy.

It is hoped that with this step in his career, the Polish-born goalkeeper can continue to make progress in his professional career and become an option to join Gregg Berhalter's roster with the USMNT for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, or in any case, that he will be in the fight to cover the United States goal in the future.

Slonina will continue with Chicago Fire until January

Gabriel Slonina played in the 0-0 draw against Atlanta United that took place on Saturday, which represented an interesting result to stay close to the postseason places in the North American league, taking into account that the Fire goalkeeper is in his first full season after debuting in mid-2021.
