Mexican-American defender Nicolás Carrera, trained in the FC Dallas academy, has found an ideal environment for his development in German soccer, where he is going through his best moment and is making steady progress towards his goal of making his official debut with the first team of Holstein Kiel in Bundesliga 2.
"Although you can't say that one place is the best because it all depends on the player's adaptation and how he is accompanied, for me this is the perfect place to improve and I am focused on taking the next step," said Carrera, in a telephone interview with Al Día from Germany.
The 19-year-old, who was born in Pachuca, Hidalgo, and grew up in Dallas, scored his first official goal in October for Holstein Kiel II, with whom he has a perfect 13-game record and leads the Northern Zone of the Regionalliga (fourth division of German soccer).
Nico Carrera began his career in Mexico, even in 2019 he had a call-up with the Mexican national team, however, that same year he was invited by the U.S. U-17 national team, in which he has kept playing so far.
He began his career in soccer at the Dallas FC academy and at North Texas Soccer Club in the USL Championship, the second division of U.S. soccer. In 2020 he was signed by KSV Holstein, a club that caught the headlines in 2021 for defeating Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal.
