Martino has César Montes as a captain's choice over Raúl Jiménez.

In Mexico's match against Uruguay, coach Gerardo Martino decided to start without Guillermo Ochoa in the starting lineup. Instead of the América goalkeeper, he opted for Alfredo Talavera, a former Pumas UNAM player who will now play for FC Juárez.

The surprise of the night was that with Ochoa not in the starting lineup, the captain's band would go to Raúl Jiménez, who has scored more than 30 goals for the national team and has become one of the leaders due to his great career in Europe.

However, Gerardo Martino has not looked at the Wolves player to give him this task but preferred to give it to a young player from Monterrey who has improved his level and who is showing every time why he is a starter with Mexico but has had few participations in the national team.

Why did Martino prefer Montes over Jiménez?

César Montes was given this responsibility and at 25 years of age, he has become one of the main leaders of the team. The player trained in Monterrey's youth academy already has 38 appearances with the national team and was chosen due to his great performance and his great defensive leadership.

Due to these characteristics, Martino thought it convenient to let the center back know that he is one of the important players, while Jiménez, due to his low playing time, will have to earn Martino's trust again to get the captain's band again.
