After more than 10 years, the Mexican team has a new shield.

The Mexican Federation of Football released the new logo for the Mexico national team and the fans did not receive it very well: some people loved it, but others hated it and they even made memes of it. Here is the shield:

More than 10 years have passed since the Mexico national team released its previous shield. And the new one apparently did not satisfy the fans of El Tri.

One of the biggest criticisms of the new design is that the previous one represented the Aztec heritage in its details. However, the new design has been criticized for looking too simple and lacking in personality.

According to the Federation itself, there was a “test” throughout the country, which, accompanied by the support of sports sponsors, led to the new logo. In the new logo, the way in which the eagle is on a ball stands out, which has been the essence throughout the history of the national team.

This was the presentation of the new shield

The new logo was shown at an event at the Azteca stadium, house of El Tri, and later in the sky, dozens of drones formed the shield, along with the phrase "Mexico made of Mexicans"

"Happy to have this new image of our team, our national team, our federation. I think that innovation is always very important, especially in the middle of a process like the one we are experiencing, this presentation makes us all proud," said Mikel Arriola , president of Liga MX.

The president of the FMF, Yon de Luisa, made an appearance at the event that featured a great artistic number where hundreds of dancers conformed with lights the words "pride", "passion" and "dreams".

A video was also presented to show the new logo that El Tri will use in its history; the first was from 1923 to 1930, the second from 1930 to 1968, the third from 1968 to 1980, the fourth from 1980 to 1994, and the fifth from 1994 to 2021.

It is not the first time the Mexican team has faced criticism about its image changes: in 2010, El Tri released a black jersey to play away. And this was not well received by fans, who said that the uniform lacked identity. However, these criticisms did not weigh down, as the shirt was a bestseller.

The reaction of the fans for the new logo of Mexico

However, despite the pride that the authorities expressed for the new logo, Mexican fans are not supporting the change.

Some of the loudest comments about the new shield said it was "horrible", "ugly" or "improvable" at best. And the memes was not long in coming.

The memes about the new shield of the Mexican team did not take long to flood Twitter.

Even Pokemon was present in the new shield of the Mexican team, according to Internet users.

Although criticism and memes have been what filled the conversation on social media, a more important issue is on the horizon: the friendly match that will be played against Chile.

Ghosts of the past

It´s not necessary to remember the brutal defeat that Mexico suffered against La Roja, with a score of 7-0, which meant a disaster for the Aztecas in the Copa América Centenario in 2016.

With goals from Vargas (4), Alexis and Puch (2), the Chileans, combined collective play, intensity and forcefulness to destroy the Mexicans, who had made a remarkable championship so far, but that was not enough to stop the unstoppable machine that was La Roja.

It will be for this friendly match that the Mexican team will wear its new shield, seeking to shake off the ghosts of the past. The game will be played on the next december 8th, in the United States.

This game will be the last friendly before the start of the World Cup year.

On the other hand, the World Cup tie has also meant a new challenge for the Aztecs, who in the past were used to calmly going through this phase.

Now, the team led by Gerardo "Tata" Martino is in the third position in the standings after having lost their last 2 games in a row.
