The Mexican national team is getting ready to face its next friendlies prior to the 2022 World Cup. In these, many Liga MX players will be in the squad as it is a final test by Martino. Alejandro Zendejas was surprisingly absent from the call-up list. The reason is that he has not signed his letter of resignation to the U.S. national team.

Mexico had understood that since the player was only part of the U-17 youth process, there would be no problem. That is why after his great level in Club America, Gerardo Martino decided to call him for two friendlies, without knowing that the player had not yet fully resigned from the USMNT. FIFA is studying the case.

According to ESPN, FIFA would not stay with its hands folded and would directly sanction the player, who would not be able to play national team soccer for an indefinite period of time. That is, neither representing Mexico, nor representing the United States.

Does this problem jeopardize Mexico's participation in Qatar?

The real situation is that, if FIFA regulations are followed, since these are class B matches, i.e., they are not international tournaments or FIFA dates, the sanction goes directly to the player and not to the national team. Mexico would have had a narrow escape.
