Mexico National Team will start their participation in Qatar 2022 in less than seven months, when they face Poland on November 22, on the pitch of Ras Abu Aboud Stadium, in what will be the most important game for El Tri in the World Cup.

The Aztec squad will also face Argentina and Saudi Arabia in the group stage, for which they will have already agreed to four friendly games to prepare, looking to improve the weak performances that they had during the CONCACAF Qualifiers.

Mexico National Team will face Nigeria on May 28, followed by two games against CONMEBOL teams, as Gerardo “Tata” Martino is trying to face teams from the same confederation than their rivals. The first game will be against Uruguay on June 2 and the second one against Ecuador, on June 5.

The last friendly game that El Tri has agreed to play so far is against Paraguay, on August 31, showing how important is for Martino to arrive at the game against Argentina playing at the highest level they can, although for that to happen, he also needs to find a good striker.

Neither Rogelio Funes Mori nor Henry Martín have been the strikers that Gerardo Martino was hoping for, as between the two of them only scored three goals during the qualifying games. Raúl Jiménez has been no better, as he only scored three goals, all via penalty kick.

That’s why he called Santiago Giménez to the last FIFA match window and the friendly game that they had against Guatemala on April 27, but he couldn’t find the net. Martino knows that they need a new striker if they want to succeed.

Alejandro Viniegra has raised the hand to be considered by Martino, as he already has experience in Brazilian first and second flight, as he was formed in Cruzeiro’s academy teams but currently plays for Red Bull Bragantino.

Can he play for El Tri?

The 20-year-old Mexican striker holds both Mexican and Brazilian citizenships, and even if he was part of Brazil U-16 squad, he has been part of the Mexican academy teams more recently, as he’s played for both the U-20 and U-21 squads.
