This afternoon, Liga MX 2022 will have the duel of Xolos vs Monterrey, in which Club Tijuana could still pay a million-dollar fine if it were to be defeated by Rayados.

In this afternoon's match against Monterrey, Sebastián Méndez's Xolos will have to try to win to get out of the last three places of the competition.

Why could Club Tijuana still pay a million-dollar fine?

Because there is no relegation in Liga MX 2022, the organization has decided on a punishment for the last three places in the competition, and that punishment is to pay a million-dollar fine

And if the Xolos lose this afternoon against La Pandilla, they could be placed in any of the last 3 places of the tournament, and according to the information provided by Liga MX, these teams would have to pay a fine for finishing in that position.

The fines for the clubs that occupy these positions are 3, 921, 626.24 million dollars for the last place, 2, 303, 955.42 million dollars for the second to last place, and 1, 617, 670.82 million pesos for the third to last place.

And according to the current general classification, Querétaro, Tijuana, and Juárez are the clubs that will have to pay the million dollar fine for being in 16th, 17th, and 18th place, respectively.

How did Xolos de Tijuana fare in Liga MX 2022?

Xolos de Tijuana had a terrible Clausura 2022 Tournament, registering 4 wins, 5 ties, and 8 losses. In addition, they are the second team that has conceded the most goals in the tournament with 25 goals against, and only 14 goals for.

However, not everything can be considered a loss, as the club has discovered a new asset in its ranks that has attracted the attention of the other clubs in the tournament, in the form of young player Marcel Ruiz.

But even the youngster's talent has not been enough for a club that has not been in top form for a long time.

Xolos de Tijuana, far from their best times

In the Apertura 2016, and Clausura 2017, the Xolos de Tijuana, who were commanded by Miguel Herrera finished the regular phase of the tournament as the best.

In this way, they broke a curse, as no one had managed to string together two consecutive tournaments as the best team in the regular phase since 1984 when Club América did it.

But what remains of those times are only memories, since it seems that La Jauría will have to pay the millionaire fine it is entitled to, as one of the 3 worst clubs in the tournament.
