The journey of Chivas in Clausura 2022 ended on Sunday evening in Estadio Jalisco, as they couldn’t beat Atlas in a game that ended in a 1-1 draw, although the 3-2 aggregate sentenced El Rebaño Sagrado’s aspirations of winning a new Liga MX title.

It was El Rebaño who jumped to the pitch needing a victory of 2 or more goals, as the position in the table favored Atlas and would’ve given them the ticket to semifinals if the aggregate ended in a draw, thanks to the 2-1 victory that they achieved during the first leg of the series.

And even if Chivas had the possession for most of the game, they couldn’t find the verticality needed to become a threat to Camilo Vargas and Atlas, as they only had four shots on target, same number as the Rojinegros, even if they doubled the shots that Atlas had throughout the game.

Only José Juan Macías managed to find the net just a minute before the regular time ended, but it wasn’t enough to orchestrate the comeback that Chivas followers were expecting. The elimination of El Rebaño Sagrado now opens a new question for them: who is going to be their next coach?

Will Cadena remain as Chivas coach?

For the first five games that Cadena had in Chivas’s dugout, El Rebaño remained unbeaten and earned points enough to make it into Repechaje, showing that the Mexican coach knew how to handle a locker room that previously didn’t have a leader.

But in the quarterfinals, his decisions arrived late and didn’t know how to react once they were down on the score sheet, showing his inexperience in a top-tier league, something that could cost him the opportunity of remaining as El Rebaño’s coach next season.

According to sports journalist David Medrano, Ricardo Peláez has two options to become the next coach of Chivas, but he will decide in the next few days who will be the new coach. The first one is Cadena, although after the exhibition on Sunday night his case is not as strong as the second option.

Who is the other option for Chivas?

The second option that Peláez is seriously considering is Uruguayan coach Diego Aguirre, who travelled to Guadalajara in the week to start conversations with Peláez and is already planning a long-term project to present to Chivas’s management.
