After the defeat suffered by Atlas FC against Tigres in the second leg of the semifinals of Clausura 2022, Los Zorros could look different for Apertura 2022, starting on the dugout, as Diego Cocca hasn’t renewed with the Rojinegros and is on the last days of his contract.

The reason why Tigres vs Atlas should no longer be played

Although Atlas couldn’t beat Los Felinos on their visit to Estadio Universitario, they fell 4-2 in one of the controversial games of the season, the aggregate gave them the ticket to the final, as the series ended 5-4 in favor of the Rojinegros.

Atlas now will face their second final in the same number of seasons and now are looking to win back-to-back Liga MX titles after spending 71 years without being able to lift a trophy, showing that Cocca has become one of the best coaches in Mexican soccer since he took over Atlas FC.

But not even the outstanding results that the Rojinegros have made Alejandro Irarragori and Grupo Orlegi to renew his contract, as they are still negotiating given that so far, they haven’t agreed to the requests that the Argentine coach asked to stay in Atlas.

Where will he coach next season?

Although he’s still in negotiations with the Rojinegros, given the proximity of the end of his contract, his agent Christian Bragarnik is in conversations with other teams, like Argentine side Racing de Avellaneda, and even a few clubs in MLS, where he has interest in coaching.

But reports from TUDN suggest that Irarragori knows that if he wants Atlas to keep fighting at the top spots of Liga MX the best option for them is to have Cocca in the dugout, which is why they are ready to accept the terms that Cocca requested.

The Argentine coach, who is ready to face his second final of Liga MX in the Rojinegros’s dugout, will sign a 1-year extension, with a substantial increase to his salary and the opportunity to choose the players that will reinforce the team next season.

He already requested the first addition

According to reports from TUDN and Univision, the first player that Atlas is looking to acquire for Apertura 2022 is Arturo “Ponchito” González, who was formed in “La Academia” but sold to CF Monterrey back in 2016.
