Chivas defeat against Club Puebla last weekend not only aggravated the crisis in which they are sink in, but also won’t allow them to have Alexis Vega, one of the best players on their roster, for the next two games, as he was sent off after insulting the referee when he didn’t cancel La Franja’s second goal.

Refereeing mistakes bough Marcelo Michel Leaño more time in Chivas, but Amaury Vergara already has his replacement

Chivas intended on appealing the two-game suspension that Liga MX imposed over Vega, as they thought it was excessive, given that players argue all the time during a game that has a lot of emotions, like the one against Puebla was, although they decided to accept it after learning the reason of said suspension.

According to sports journalist David Medrano, After the referee decided to maintain his decision of giving Puebla their second goal, as he didn’t see a foul in the previous play, Vega approached him insulting him on multiple occasions, shouting at him “you mother****, you’re an a**ole”.

In an interview, Ricardo Peláez, Chivas’ sporting director, confirmed that his player did insult the referee several times, although he thinks that the referee could have misinterpreted his expressions, as “they’re of colloquial use rather than actual insults”.

Will Vega receive another sanction?

Ricardo Peláez confirmed that they will accept the two-game suspension, as there’s no way in which they can win an appellation, but also because he knows his player did wrong by losing his head the way he did.

But they won’t stop there, as he confirmed that Chivas will also sanction Alexis Vega, imposing him a fine, in order to teach him that he needs to keep a cool head in moments like that. Although he didn’t mention a specific figure, it might be around $1,000.

Which games will Vega miss?

Given that Liga MX is facing a short week, as the FIFA match window is getting close, Alexis Vega will be out of activity this week, as Chivas will visit Atlético San Luis on Wednesday and then will return to Estadio Akron to face Club Santos on Saturday, in two games that can help them return to the winning path or sink them to the bottom of Liga MX table.

Vega will return the following week when they receive Club América for the Clásico Nacional.
