Club América is having one of their worst tournaments since the Azcárraga family took over the team in 1959, as the last time they had less than six points after eight rounds of Liga MX was in the 1957-58 season.

That’s the reason that had Santiago Solari sacked, after he only won one game and tied three more in the first eight rounds of Clausura 2022, and that has Santiago Baños walking on thin ice, as he is also responsible for the crisis in which Las Águilas are.

The current crisis will also affect the roster, as some of the players have showed that they lack the will to be part of Club América, as they usually make mistakes whenever they’re on the pitch and have caused Las Águilas to lose points.

They’ll have until the end of the season to prove they can be part of an institution with the history of Club América, but for now, they have their days numbered, as Las Águilas will try to sell them once Clausura 2022 is over.

Which players can leave El Nido?

Roger Martínez and Richard Sánchez once were guaranteed starters in Las Águilas, but in Clausura 2022, they’ve showed that their level is below what was expected from them, as Roger Martínez was sent off on the first game of the season and Sánchez has committed multiple mistakes that ended in goals against América.

The last player that won’t be part of the Azulcrema squad for Apertura 2022 is Mauro Lainez, the older of the Lainez brothers, who hasn’t showed the same talent as Diego, and even after just a couple of days as Las Águilas coach, Fernando “Tano” Ortíz already erased him from the team, as he was sent to play with the U-20 squad against Monterrey.

Baños is also on his way out of Las Águilas

Since Baños arrived in 2017 as Las Águilas chairman, which coincidentally was the last time América was standing at the bottom of Liga MX table until this year, he has won just one Liga MX title, in 2018 with Miguel Herrera.

But since then, they haven’t been able to win another title, although they were close in 2019, which is why they were able to play the CONCACAF Champions League, although the lost the final against CF Monterrey, proving that Baños’ tenure hasn’t been successful.
