After a strong start in Liga MX, were Cruz Azul won four of their first six games and was one of the top contenders to win Clausura 2022, La Máquina has lost their solidity and now are fighting to be the fourth place of Liga MX, as they are trying to avoid playing Repechaje.

Since then, Los Cementeros have won only three games, including the 1-0 victory over Club Querétaro on Thursday night, tied two more and lost the remainder four, leaving them in the middle of a cluster of teams that are trying to access directly to Liguilla, alongside CF Monterrey, Atlas, and Club América.

But even if Cruz Azul were able to beat Gallos Blancos on their visit to Estadio Corregidora with a goal scored by Pablo Aguilar during the second half, La Máquina still has problems on their performance, especially since any of their striker have been able to score.

Juan Reynoso decided to start the game with Cristian Tabó as La Máquina forward, even if it isn’t his natural position. Iván Morales, the 22-year-old Paraguayan that has been the starter in recent games changed positions with him for the first half. Santiago Giménez was able to jump into the pitch on the second half, as he substituted Tabó.

Santiago Giménez has been erased from the starting XI

According to reports, if Juan Reynoso wants to keep his job in Cruz Azul, he must win at least one title in the current season and given that La Máquina were eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions League, their only hope is Liga MX.

But even if Reynoso knows it, he has refused to start his best players, as he placed an alternate lineup on their visit to Querétaro, leaving Santiago Giménez on the bench. Reports from TUDN suggest that his absence has to do with a tactical decision.

The truth is that there’s no logical explanation for the lack of confidence that Reynoso has on the 21-year-old Mexican forward, as he’s one of the best scorers for Cruz Azul on the season. But sources close to Cruz Azul’s camp indicate that reasons out of sports are behind his absence in the starting XI.

Why doesn't Reynoso want him?

Sources confirmed that Giménez follows closely the advice of his father, Christian Giménez, something that hasn’t sit well with Reynoso, as he feels like he’s the one that should be advising the Mexico international given that he’s responsible for the tactics of La Máquina, which is why he hasn’t given Giménez a chance of appearing in the lineup since the game against Atlas, at the beginning of April.
